The Figure in Transparent Washes

This watercolor started with a photo session in early morning light with my favorite model MKH. I altered the color and temperatures in the painting (you can see the reference photo is mosty red and magenta hues), and started the first layer of washes in cooler blues, greens and golds.

I added warmer violets in the background, and layers of burnt sienna, ochre and cad reds in her skin tone to accentuate the horizontal tear drop shape of her head, arms and torso enveloped by greens and blues on the couch & pillows.

Many Layers Later: the finished painting - Good Book, 30 x 21 (sold)

Great painting! I love paintings that tell a story or invite you in to visit. This one does both.
I am knocked out by your blog! It is so interesting. The creativity juices are spilling out of my computer screen all over my desk.
Thanks again!
