This one started with a very faint ghost print of a Don Juan and two Queen Elizabeth roses, next to the cast iron bird bath on my kitchen counter.
I started with light washes of watercolor while I was at the Boddy House Gallery this week, and then brought it back to the studio to play with colored pencils.
I like the idea of Queen Elizabeth and Don Juan in close quarters, duking it out over love, passion and everything related to matters of the heart.
"I am no lover of pompous title, but only desire that my name may be recorded in a line or two, which shall briefly express my name, my virginity, the years of my reign, the reformation of religion under it, and my preservation of peace."
~Queen Elizabeth I 1533-1603
"A little curly-headed, good-for-nothing, and mischief-making monkey from his birth. "

I love your kitchen sink paintings. What a great story in paint. Are you that well read that you can quote Queen Elizabeth and Byron? You are amazing! Great work.
This is a really interesting treatment. I wouldn't have thought of colored pencil as an adjunct to watercolor. Or do you mean watercolor pencils...?
Either way, just lovely. 8-]
