Eucalyptus Study; Watercolor on Gesso

This is a small study for a larger painting. The eucalyptus trees outside the San Luis Obispo Mission remind me of sun bleached bones, and the shadow patterns & textures in the bark are so beautiful, I think I took 40 photos of them at different angles for painting reference. I guess I should get started, eh? Eucalyptus Study 7 x 9 Watercolor on gesso coated paper (sold)

Great study of the Eucalyptus Tree. I love the blue spaces in between the branches and leaves this is what I like to focus on in my art. I just started watercolor painting a month ago but have painted in other mediums in the past, and it is both challenging and satisfying to work in.

Here is a link to some of
my art work.

Thanks for posting the progress stages of your art I really enjoy looking at your work. I have started to capture the stages of my art as well.

Hi Belinda: I have a question regarding watercolor over gesso. Wouldn't acrylic gesso resist the water color? How do you keep the watercolor from beading up. I don't know much about watercolor, never quite got the hang of it so I admire the works of those who use it well. Patti

No one does light with watercolor like BDP.

I think these are my favorite trees in the world. I lived in SLO for 13 years and now I live in Mexico. I miss those trees. Nice painting...
