Fish Fountain: Monotype, Watercolor & Colored Pencil

About a year ago, I met with some friends in Descanso Gardens (La Canada, CA) to paint and sketch. After walking around, snapping photos and making quick studies, we settled on a bench by a pond bedecked with two beautiful fish fountains.
I started a sketch in ink, and pinned the work in process to a cork board in my studio.
Over the course of the year, that funny little fish sketch prompted a watercolor, a pencil drawing, a doodle on an envelope to a friend and now a monotype.
I'm always amazed at the durability of an image drawn from life. My affinity for the fountain may have something to do with it, but I know I'm not finished painting and drawing those curved fishes yet. I love that about this gift.

Oh I remember that sketchcrawl day! Is that my ol' hand drawing in the Moleskine? You have such a great way of bringing exciting color to a scene - always a treat to see.
