Monotype & Watercolor: Walk with me in Italy

Walk with me in Italy, 4 x 6 Monotype Ghost & Watercolor
Available here.

This monotype ghost was one of my attempts to get every last molecule of ink off the plate, after pulling the first print. This one came out so transparent, the term "ghost print" is really illustrated. Still, it makes an interesting under-painting for a watercolor - just enough information to hint at the structure, but none of the details of the original monotype.

It does make a nice watercolor. How was the plate made?

Hi drb - thanks for the compliment... the plate is a 4 x 6 piece of zinc. I beveled the edges so the paper wouldn't get punctured while going through the press. It's one of my favorite petite plates - I use it a lot. The original monotype for this was a dark field: black etching ink - rolled out on the plate, and removed with tools and fingers to create the building/arches. Printed while the ink was still wet against a sheet of somerset paper. The image on this post shows my 2nd print, pulled from the same inked plate, against a new sheet of paper, just after pulling the 1st (much darker) print.
