The Saugus (CA) Train Station is a nice place to paint plein air, if you can handle the heat. My friends Rod and Ernie were painting in the shade (smart artists) when I took the reference photo for this little watercolor.

I've been reading a book about Andrew Wyeth, one of my favorite contemporary watercolor artists. His treatment of texture with dry brush, and the way he preserves whites - but slathers layers of pigments around them - I'm *so* inspired.
First washes of color - around preserved white of the paper.
